Philosophy Statement

My philosophy is that every child should have a safe, structured environment to learn, grow, and share their thoughts. Every child should feel safe to express themselves. Every child should be able to work collaboratively to learn from and with each other. The environment should be nurturing, safe, and enriching.

I believe the educator should be the facilitator of the classroom. Each student should have and know their role as student and should be able to express that role to anyone who may inquire about it. Educators should allow students to be responsible for their own learning, but be their to scaffold in support as necessary. I believe the educator should be well equipped to do the job assigned to them because a well equip teacher is one of the biggest factors in student achievement.

I believe that as a Literacy Coach,  I should strive to build self efficacy and capacity in the teachers that I work with because I know that a teacher with a good sense of self-efficacy is important for student academic achievement. I believe that as a literacy coach, I should equip teachers with the necessary tools to enable them to effectively use and understand research-based best practices to teach reading with the ability to considering what is best for students.

 As a literacy Coach, I believe that assessments should be given and used to assess student knowledge and to target skills that need strengthening. Data driven instruction further tightens the gaps that may appear in the academic progress of every child.

I believe that with my work in teacher prep, I should stay abreast of classic research and current research to best prepare the teachers who will teach the students of the future. Knowing that the educational environment can and will change, I believe that I should charge the new educator to remain a learner just as I do.
